When I created Wretched Couch, I never really thought about selling it. This piece was the first sculpture to reframe how I was going about making new work, and I was in the midst of producing for an upcoming exhibition with 3 other artists. This couch was so awkward in that show, surrounded by earlier work that barely related. That said, I strangely felt good about the final outcome. It's an inelegant piece to display: two separate units distanced anywhere between 40-60". I thought, Who would want this?

Reception + Curator's Talk

Thanks to all who made it out to my curator’s talk  for the opening reception of  Reconstitute.   It was an   impressive group   of   people who turned out   for  negative   degree  weather. I appreciate Gratia Brown and Wendy Thoreson for being the most fabulous participants to work with and helping me slog through the installation whilst being sick.

Cedar Rapids Museum of Art
On view: November 3, 2018 – October 6, 2019 as part of Terra Nova: Ten Years

The CRMA celebrates ten years of collaborating with the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio. In 2009, the CRMA began meeting with artists who had completed residencies at the Ceramics Center and acquiring a piece of their work—often completed during their residency—for the Museum’s collection. This mutually beneficial arrangement allowed the artists to establish themselves in a museum collection and receive professional experience with curators while growing the CRMA’s collection of three-dimensional art. The exhibition will display artwork from every resident from 2009 to 2018 and both executive directors, a testament to the fruitfulness of this collaboration.

Juror for 2018 Student Art Show

Congrats to the award winners and honorable mentions at the Janalyn Hanson White Gallery in the Summer Student Show! (1st-3rd featured). What an impressive array of work to choose from. Thank you for the invitation to jury at Mt. Mercy University. I can’t wait to see what these artists produce for their thesis shows!

Demonstrating Artist

I  appreciate the  opportunity to  dive  back in to  a technique I haven't  explored in a while .   Making chain links (by request) as well as prepping an armature for solid construction made me feel a bit rusty .   Fabulous questions and very talented  creators in the Conversations in Clay class at the Iowa Ceramic Center  and Glass Studio.  I hope to see some of these processes around the studio.

Visiting Artist and Juror

Thanks to everyone who attended the opening reception for the Student Juried Art Exhibition. Talking to students and meeting the other visiting artists was a highlight.  Northern  State University  has some of the warmest and incredibly talented art faculty. They host FANTASTIC shows  at JFAC Gallery and bring in renown artists for their students and community.   I highly recommend visiting if  passing through Aberdeen South Dakota.
