Lauren Tucci is an American artist whose works of sculpture and printmaking are created in the form of curiously-modified objects found in the home to discuss conflicts, conditions, and the dark humor of our everyday reality. Her work depicts funny absurdities that help to glean information about ourselves that we might share collectively. Objects become symbols in investigations about the self, personality, and how interior spaces define us.
Her works have been featured in various publications including Ceramics Monthly and have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Lauren’s Bachelor of Fine Arts was acquired at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania (Penn West) with a concentration in Studio Ceramics and minors in Art History and Psychology. Her studio is located at the Iowa Ceramics Center and Glass Studio, where she previously attended as a Long-Term Resident Artist.
Professionally, she is the Gallery Director of Gilded Pear Gallery and is a Fine Art Appraiser of Personal Property with the International Society of Appraisers with Member designation. Her field of expertise includes American studio ceramics, printmaking and sculpture. Lauren is also a member with the National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts (NCECA), served as advisory council for Excellence in the Arts (Gazette), and has been invited as a visiting artist, juror, curator, and speaker around the Midwest.

There is more currency with having intrinsic connections with people one on one, than in our filtered digital world. It seems, to me, that we’ve lost effective verbal communication with one another—sentences have no syntax, words used have incorrect meaning. Because of this, I’m inclined to think that we might investigate an archaic approach that humans have used for millennia: symbolism.
My artwork is focused on sculptural ceramics as well as illustrative block printing; my approach to creating is through an intuitive process of dissecting imagery we find closest to us in our dwellings. Objects found in the home are layered with additional symbols via a trompe-l’œil effect. These curiously-modified contemporary artifacts implore surrealism through a comical lens. I incorporate the historical reference of gold and frame gilding in series of work. Pairing this traditional surfacing to contemporary commodities hone in on how funny I find it’s rampant production and consumption.
