Exhibit Info
Part & Parcel recognizes the essential modes of expression that makeup what is viewed in today’s clay community. While there are many themes and motifs within the medium, this selection is focused primarily on four. Vessel, module, figure, and fragment, all represent the core foundation of our “Claytopia”. This conduit of material and technique dives into the Midwest and unifies artists working in the region: Gratia Brown, Claudia Poser, Wendy Thoreson, and Lauren Tucci. The exhibition features module installations inspired by natural forms and decorative vessels that include certain filigree techniques found in metal working. Other works explore the ceramic fragment, as well as the dissection of figurative imagery. This is a display of work created by artists ranging from the self taught, to those with a Master’s degree in Fine Art. The knowledge and experience gained by the maker informs the material and illuminates that they may coexist in the same milieu.
